Professional Biography

Dr. Keiko Miyata, BVMS, CVA

Hello, I’m Dr. Keiko Miyata, founder and veterinarian of Sunny Side Veterinary, a mobile practice focused on providing compassionate, personalized care in the comfort of your home. I have 18 years of experience in the veterinary field, beginning as a veterinary assistant and receptionist. My areas of focus include internal medicine, dentistry, holistic care, behavior, and nutrition. I take a thoughtful, individualized approach to each patient, with an emphasis on whole-body health and long-term wellbeing.

Before founding Sunny Side Veterinary, I worked in both corporate and private practice, serving as a lead surgery veterinarian and mentoring newly graduated doctors. I later practiced as a full-time relief veterinarian, gaining experience across diverse hospitals, complex procedures, and a wide range of cases and treatments.

I earned my veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018, one of the top veterinary programs in the world. During my training, I completed externships in surgery, clinical nutrition, and integrative medicine, and became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist through Chi University.

Personal Biography

I was born in Japan and raised in Orange County, California. While pursuing an entrepreneurial venture to open a bed and breakfast in Mexico, I had a life-changing realization: my true calling was veterinary medicine. I returned home to follow that passion, completing my undergraduate and pre-veterinary studies at UC Irvine while working as a veterinary assistant for five years.

After earning my veterinary degree, I met my husband, Dan. We now share our home with two beloved rescue dogs, Millie and Cora, and two cats, Fig and Klaus. In our free time, we love traveling and catching waves together whenever we can.

Assistant Bio

Hi, I’m Jessie!

In 2018, I lost my heart dog to an illness that left me with more questions than answers. That feeling of defeat and frustration with the unknown was a turning point for me; I decided right then that I wanted to be the person who helps provide those answers for others.

In 2020, I took that leap and enrolled at Platt College Riverside. I started from the ground up as a kennel assistant and, fueled by a obsession with learning, moved straight into a Veterinary Assistant role after graduating in 2021 with my AS in Veterinary Technology.

Since then, I've had the privilege of working alongside diverse doctors, absorbing different styles of high-quality medicine like a sponge.

Through that journey, I discovered my true passions: the fast-paced world of high-energy working breeds, the precision of anesthesia, and the 'art' of phlebotomy.

I love what I do because I believe every pet deserves the absolute best medicine and a team that never stops searching for the 'why.' I'm a firm believer in 'forever learning' so I can provide the gold-standard care your four-legged family members deserve.

When I'm on the clock, I'm all heart and hard work-because I know exactly what it's like to be the person on the other side of the exam table.

Inspiration

Sunny Side Veterinary was inspired by my beloved Golden Retriever, Sunny.
In her final days, the intensive care she required highlighted the need for compassionate, high-quality veterinary support at home. Her journey sparked a vision - to create a service that brings comfort, dignity, and personalized care to pets where they feel safest: in their own home.
