Veterinarian Bio
Professional Biography
Dr. Keiko Miyata, BVMS, CVA
Hello, I’m Dr. Keiko Miyata, founder and veterinarian of Sunny Side Veterinary, a mobile practice focused on providing compassionate, personalized care in the comfort of your home. I have 18 years of experience in the veterinary field, beginning as a veterinary assistant and receptionist. My areas of focus include internal medicine, dentistry, holistic care, behavior, and nutrition. I take a thoughtful, individualized approach to each patient, with an emphasis on whole-body health and long-term wellbeing.
Before founding Sunny Side Veterinary, I worked in both corporate and private practice, serving as a lead surgery veterinarian and mentoring newly graduated doctors. I later practiced as a full-time relief veterinarian, gaining experience across diverse hospitals, complex procedures, and a wide range of cases and treatments.
I earned my veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018, one of the top veterinary programs in the world. During my training, I completed externships in surgery, clinical nutrition, and integrative medicine, and became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist through Chi University.
Personal Biography
I was born in Japan and raised in Orange County, California. While pursuing an entrepreneurial venture to open a bed and breakfast in Mexico, I had a life-changing realization: my true calling was veterinary medicine. I returned home to follow that passion, completing my undergraduate and pre-veterinary studies at UC Irvine while working as a veterinary assistant for five years.
After earning my veterinary degree, I met my husband, Dan. We now share our home with two beloved rescue dogs, Millie and Cora, and two cats, Fig and Klaus. In our free time, we love traveling and catching waves together whenever we can.
Assistant Bio
Hi, I’m Stephani Ramsey.
I was born and raised in Southern California, and have a BA in Psychology and Social Behavior from UC Irvine. My veterinary career began during the pandemic with Banfield Pet Hospital as a receptionist and eventually trained to be a veterinary assistant. Working at Banfield, I met Dr Miyata and discovered a shared passion for quality care while bringing pets the most comfort possible.
In my free time I enjoy pursuing artistic avenues and spending time outdoors, whether it be a casual hike or more intensive like rock climbing or horseback riding. I also currently share my home with 2 snakes, Bean and Chow Mein, and my cat, Blackie.
Inspiration
Sunny Side Veterinary was inspired by my beloved Golden Retriever, Sunny.
In her final days, the intensive care she required highlighted the need for compassionate, high-quality veterinary support at home. Her journey sparked a vision - to create a service that brings comfort, dignity, and personalized care to pets where they feel safest: in their own home.
